Europe-wide product launch

Around four years ago, NUKI has launched a project to further develop its electronic locking systems which should become the smallest, fastest and most powerful electronic door lock that has ever been launched by the Austrian company. Therefore they contacted our Bamberg site at an early stage to have very similar prototypes for the so-called Handwheel manufactured here. This allowed the product to be further developed and optimized and the deep-drawn part was ultimately ordered. The locking system has now been available europeanwide for around two weeks.

The starting point was the customer's requirement to produce a high-quality stainless steel housing for a brushless motor. The housing was not only to be given a new interior, but also reduced in size by up to two thirds. In addition, a turned part from another supplier was also to be packaged after production. The project management team at the site clarified the design aspects as well as the entire production process and the test plan. 

Another advantage in the realization of the project was the in-house toolmaking department at the site, which produced the tool in less than six months based on the part, the prototypes and the corresponding measurement reports and change requests. The colleagues from project management and toolmaking then also took on the sample order and the first handling run. In close coordination with the customer's contacts, this was discussed at an on-site meeting and subsequently finalized. For example, dimensional accuracy is now carefully checked using several methods, including a 3D measuring machine.

The following steps are then carried out:
- Production of the deep-drawn part on one of our progressive presses
- Spot checks
- Finishing in a washing basket by an employee (to avoid scratches)
- Degreasing in the cleaning system
- Synchronous brushing of the thermoformed part and the button by a long-standing partner and “marrying” of both parts on the customer tray (for a uniform brushing pattern)
- Final packaging and shipping
