New research project for the optimised production of aluminium parts

An innovative project for the development of an effective deburring process for aluminium parts is being launched at the Großbottwar site, which is specifically aimed at eliminating flash burrs.

The project, which was initiated with Leyton last year, will be realised in the coming months. Employees from SteelCo.Tech's operations and quality assurance departments as well as four external partners will be involved in the trials.

The problem of flash
The forming of aluminium components using stamping and forming technology often produces an undesirable flitter burr. This thin, often barely visible burr can lead to considerable safety risks, especially when the aluminium parts are connected to electronic control units. Vibrations can cause the burr to come loose and cause short circuits in the electronics.

Aim of the research project
The project aims to develop a manufacturing process or a combination of processes that enables 100 per cent removal of burrs. To date, there are no efficient, fully automated solutions that can be integrated into the manufacturing process.

Planned procedure
Testing of six different deburring processes and their combinations

Development of a deburring technology that can be automated
Integration of the technology into the production cycle of the aluminium stamped parts and automation of the process

Expected results
The project aims to develop an advanced, automated deburring technology that can be seamlessly integrated into the manufacturing process. This would enable a significant improvement in the quality and safety of aluminium components in various industries.
